This CD was first introduced to the craft world but it is a fantastic resource for students to make 4 automata out of card. They also come with a matching presentation box and a pop-up card as well as video tutorials showing the full construction.
Using cams & cranks to produce the movement, they make fantastic working models to help students explore simple mechanical movement. Great for both key stage 2 (Simple cams & pop-ups) as well as key stage 3 (cams, cranks and great for students that struggle with resistant materials!).
You print out the plans to make Inky the Cat or Patch the Dog who appear to bark or meow (silently)!!! or have Freddie Frog leaping on his lily pad and Olly the Owl flap his wings up and down whilst nodding his head.
Full video tutorials show clearly and simply, step by step, how to make everything on the CD-Rom.
The models have been designed to work when printed on 200gsm card. This will easily run in most photo copiers and you could if necessary go down to 160gsm. The models plans are in colour but of course this will translate to black and white on a copier if recourses are tight or a colour printer is not available.

This is a great classroom resource, and will also be of benefit to Student teachers, as well as anyone interested in making automata.
